Sustainability

Climate change, Environmental impact management, and Biodiversity at True

True demonstrates leadership in sustainability by setting ambitious goals to achieve carbon neutrality (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. These goals have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, a leading organization that aligns corporate climate action with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Sustainable business practices that minimize environmental impact are a critical challenge that all organizations worldwide must overcome together. 5G technology drives the development of network infrastructure and increased electricity consumption to meet rapidly changing customer service demands. These present challenges for the telecommunications industry that require effective management to achieve environmental goals. True is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through efficient natural resource and energy management.

True launched the Environmental Policy and guidelines practices that are aligned with international standards and best practices. This ensures that all employees and partners have clear guidelines for operating in a way that is mindful of the environment such as natural resource management, climate change, waste management, product stewardship and circular economy, ecosystem protection, and biodiversity. True is committed to complying with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.

ENERGY AND CLIMATE CHANGE MANAGEMENT

In the face of the growing global movement towards becoming carbon-neutral organizations, True recognizes the significant challenge it presents. To address this challenge, the Company has set ambitious goals to achieve Carbon Neutrality (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030 and Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. These goals have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, a leading organization that aligns corporate climate action with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5.C.

True is committed to significantly reducing its carbon footprint and has an ambition for a 42% decrease in carbon emissions from both Scope 1 and Scope 2 compared to the 2020 baseline year and also sets a 25% greenhouse gas emission reduction in Scope 3 by 2030 from the baseline year 2020. True’s strategy emphasizes energy and greenhouse gas management, alongside responsible water usage, waste management, and ecosystem and biodiversity protection, which is an important factor in driving to achieve the sustainability goals.

To demonstrate its commitment to climate action to stakeholders, True has been disclosing TCFD-aligned information. This includes how True identifies, manages, and responds to financial risks and opportunities arising from climate change. Moving forward, True will continually enhance its climate risk and opportunity management practices to align with TCFD recommendations and global best practices.

Energy Efficiency

Greenhouse Gas Management

True prioritizes sustainable energy use across all operations, with a particular focus on optimizing electricity consumption within our critical cell tower network. To achieve this, we leverage data analytics to identify and address energy inefficiencies. By regularly tracking energy consumption across the business, we measure the effectiveness of our reduction initiatives and inform future strategies.

True has delved deeply into usage details in each area combined with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to analyze energy consumption and as the result to achieve energy efficiency.

Power Usage Effectiveness

True is dedicated to balancing its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions with providing high-quality cell tower networks for the customers. This approach involves actively seeking renewable energy solutions to minimize its environmental impact. Furthermore, True actively supports the carbon credit market mechanism by purchasing carbon credits annually.

WATER MANAGEMENT

True has established an ambitious target to reduce water consumption per unit of revenue by 35 percent by 2030, compared to our 2020 baseline. Additionally, we assess water shortage risks using aqueduct tools developed by the World Resource Institute (WRI).

True actively manages water resources by implementing a comprehensive water management plan, particularly at office buildings nationwide which are a key area of water consumption. Through regular water audits in each office, True identifies opportunities to improve water efficiency and implements water conservation plans. Working with a building manager to guarantee that wastewater discharged from our office buildings meets all legal requirements for treatment, ensuring its safe release into public canals without impacting nearby communities.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY: WASTE MANAGEMENT

The Company recognizes the challenge of waste generation within its operations and technology changes and actively manages waste, both general waste and electronic waste (e-waste) by implementing the principles of the circular economy and the 5Rs framework (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose, and Recover). This comprehensive approach aims to minimize waste disposal, maximize resource efficiency throughout the supply chain, and to achieve zero e-waste to landfill by 2030.

Tracking waste data, including type and weight, across the organization is essential for measuring operational efficiency and evaluating progress towards waste reduction goals. To empower employees and ensure their active participation, True implements training programs and engaging campaigns that promote awareness and proper waste separation practices.

ISO14001 :2015 STANDARD CERTIFICATION

True Corporation prioritizes environmental responsibility by implementing robust environmental management practices across its organization and operations. Demonstrating its commitment to international standards, True achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for all its office buildings nationwide in 2023, following the successful business merger.

True Corporation demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability through continuous monitoring and improvement. This includes regular internal and third-party audits of resource utilization (energy, water) and pollution control (waste management). Additionally, True implements annual training programs to ensure all employees understand and adhere to the requirements of the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

BIODIVERSITY AND EFFORTS AGAINST DEFORESTATION

As True’s business conduct across the value chain may affect the ecosystem and local biodiversity, the Company has set a goal to bring no net loss of biodiversity or forest areas and support projects with positive impacts on biodiversity where possible. True will restore or plant trees to offset tree loss due to the ongoing or future business activities by 2030.
